CURRENTLY PLAYTESTING NEW SEASON AND WILL UPDATE ACCORDINGLY

As of June 24, I will be playtesting this build for potential edits.

Welcome to Utility Moira™ Bootcamp!

This guide contains the ultimate Utility Moira™ build that gives the most utility/ult generation to keep enemies debuffed, allies buffed, and improving your team's chances at getting kills.

CHANGES

June 22, 2025

  • Edited round descriptions, notes, and items to match current build. Prioritizing [Champion's Kit], [Catalytic Crystal], and [Coalegion] instead of making them sound optional or items I don't usually run.
  • Added a dedicated section about Smart Orbs to help explain why I keep it the entire game.

June 19, 2025

Changed final build and powers to fit more towards what I often run in higher ranks (Pro - All Star):

  • Swapped [Voidhoppers] and [Destruction’s Divide] to be optional powers. Replaced with [Optimal Overflow] and [Precarious Potency].
  • Added [Champion's Kit], [Catalytic Crystal], and [Coalegion] as final build items.

Notes about this build

  • If you have bad luck and run into a good [D.Va], you will probably NOT want to run this build unless your team is coordinating very well or you're able to flank behind the enemy often. Nine times out of ten, D.VA will focus your orbs and will ruin your build.
  • This build is labeled as "High Cost" due to the items listed on this build. Technically, this build could be medium or high cost depending on the items you build after the three CORE Items you buy.
  • This build is a foundation of how a PURE Utility Moira™ could work by having the highest amount of buff and debuff potential.
  • Don't leave item slots empty if you have leftover credits during your round. Your filler items will be dependent on your specific match's situation.
  • [Smart Orbs] stays because its ability is too good to remove. Be aware of your health when sending orbs. If you took damage, they'll be glued to you and not be sent forwards.

About Smart Orbs

I've seen Moira's run similar orb builds, but they eventually remove Smart Orbs and replace it with a sixth purple item (Extendrils, etc.). I've tested this both in training and in-game (running with and without Smart Orbs), and truthfully, it would be up to you on whether you run to keep Smart Orbs or remove it for your last purple item. I tend to keep Smart Orbs for a few reasons:

  • I like the "stickiness" of my orbs with it. It ensures maximum uptime on your allies and enemies. However, the trade-off is keeping a Blue item for the entire game and for the reason stated above: "If you take damage, your healing orbs will be glued to you and not be sent forwards towards your allies until you're fully healed."
  • My AP is usually around 90 - 100% by the end of the game, so there's no need for additional damage.

There is one caveat where I would recommend selling Smart Orbs, and that's if you replace it with [Extendrils]. Smart Orbs' main function is to essentially glue your orbs to your enemies and allies. Extendrils makes up for this by increasing the range in which your orbs activate. Combined with an item like [Liquid Nitrogen], you're essentially recreating Smart Orbs. I like having both as I typically find more success and uptime of abilities/buffs/debuffs.

Build

Core Items

These three items form the CORE of Utility Moira™. Any items built after this is purely based off of individual needs during the game.

  • [Smart Orbs] keeps your orbs near the enemy for the maximum amount of time.
  • [Cybervenom] and [Liquid Nitrogen] are your main debuffs that make up your core build.

Powers - Core

  • [Cross-Orbal]: Stronger early compared to Multiball with 50% reduction rather than 85%.
  • [Multiball]: Essential for maximum debuff uptime combining with Cross-Orbal.

Powers - Situation Dependent

  • [Optimal Overflow]: If you're expending a lot of biotic energy.
  • [Destruction’s Divide]: Synergy with items like [Coalegion] for utility.
  • [Phantasm]: If fading a lot and want more orbs.
  • [Voidhoppers]: Cleansing Anti-heal and saving allies.
  • [Precarious Potency]: Sustained healing when focusing on Necrotic orbs

Matchups

Strong Against

  • [Reinhardt]: You shouldn't have problems against Reinhardt due to your high mobility with Fade. If he runs out of options, spam your orb debuffs and allow your team to collapse on him.
  • [Genji]: With your multiple healing sources and auto necrotic orb debuffing him constantly, you should be able to dodge his blade with Fade and duel him.
  • [Reaper]: You're very hard to kill with this build. He (hopefully) will waste time chasing you.

Weak Against

  • [D.Va]: D.Va removes your orbs. This build's still viable through strategic timing and positioning. [Orisa] can remove orbs but is not nearly as effective as D.Va.
  • [Junker Queen]: You would need [Kiriko] and/or take [Voidhoppers] in place of one of your other Powers (e.g., Destruction's Divide).
  • [Juno] & [Ana]: Very good at forcing your Fade if you're not careful.

Hero Synergies

Tank

  • [Reinhardt]: He's strong in stadium and provides mobile cover for you to send your orbs at the enemy. His Earth Shatter provides opportunity to ruin the enemy's day with your Necrotic Orbs.
  • [Zarya]: If she uses her ult, immediately Necrotic Orb. Based on the situation, you can also ult.
  • [Orisa]: Same as [Zarya]: She clumps heroes with her ult - you want that.

DPS

  • [Mei]: Her ability to CC enemies matches up perfectly with your desire to maximize Necrotic Orb uptime.
  • [Freja]: If your Freja builds Bola, you have high synergy with her slows from her bolas and the AOE slows the bolas leave behind.

Support

  • [Mercy]: A good Mercy will give you more room to cast Necrotic Orbs as she'll take on the main support role with her Powers and Items. She is the Yin to your Yang.
  • [Kiriko]: If the enemy teams has [Junker Queen] & [Ana], Kiriko is your best friend with her cleanse.

Round Notes

Round Notes

Round 1 Power

[Cross-Orbal] will be your first Power.

You may think about choosing [Multiball], but in the early rounds, Cross-Orbal tends to perform better. You'll pick Multiball later.

Round 1 Items

Realistically, the MAIN item you need to get is [Power Playbook]. Everything else here is purely up to how you want to play in the early game.

I typically run [Power Playbook], [Compensator], and pick a third item based on context (enemy team comp, my team comp, what I want to get in the moment, etc.)

This is my favourite build right now! My win rate has shot up. I don't really see the value of multiball that early but I take it in later rounds and it's pretty insane. I'll go for Phantasm or Precarious Potency on R3

What is your opinion on the "superflexor" item (ap/epic). Does this build not need an ap increase? In my opinion, 25% ap + 10% wp is a pretty strong item. Of course, after taking "cybervenom"+"liquid nitrogen"+"smart orbs".

"[Junker Queen]: You can avoid her ult, but your teammates will be vulnerable to her anti-heal that you can't cleanse unless you have a [Kiriko]." I've had a Moira on my team cleanse us, I think she used the Voidhoppers power. She told us to keep close so it would work, but the same goes for suzu I guess.
